Baby Joseph’s parents (Mike and Olivia) and his siblings (three brothers and a sister) have been praying for him ever since he was growing in the womb. He was born in Calgary in January of 2025 then was airlifted to Edmonton which is home to the Mazankowski Heart Institute, Western Canada’s Hub for complex cardiac patients. His T21 diagnosis has been confirmed, and he has had one surgery so far to address coarctation of the aorta (narrowing of the aortic arch). The AVSD (a defect affecting the walls within the heart) will not be addressed until Joseph is a bit older. Doctors hope that he can grow and develop to about 6 months before they perform surgery to repair atrial ventricular septal defect.
